The 1912 Project “Heat No. 1” Edition NOW AVAILABLE:

So with a few months of 2013 already gone, The 1912 Project is back from its break with a brand new limited edition t-shirt release entitled “Heat No. 1”. This will be the first in a series of tees utilizing photo-based graphics and features brown ink on an ivory shirt. I’m really excited to see how this image will hold up over time - I’m thinking it might fade in the same way a vintage photograph would. The shirts are available exclusively at Frances Vintage Boutique in Phoenix on Central and Camelback. There are both mens and ladies sizes but only 25 available total, so get em’ while you can. Spread the word!

Website Updates:

While I am in the slow process of re-designing my website, I figured I would update one of my latest bodies of work with some new imagery. Included as part of my “Fingerprints of Drinkable Culture” is a series of diptychs created from droplets of commonly consumed beverages. Think of this as a sneak peak into where the future of this series might lead.

“Photography and Environmental Concern” Exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont:

The most pressing issues facing us today revolve around questions of our relationship to the planet we inhabit. While in the past the wilderness photographs of Ansel Adams defined the natural environment as a place of untouched pristine beauty, much recent photographic work has examined the increasing complexity of our interaction with the environment by focusing on such topics as pollution, global warming, industrial development, resource depletion, sustainability, recycling, and land use. I am pleased to announce my inclusion in PHOTOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont on display from March 30 - April 20th, 2013. My piece “Desert Barnacle” was selected by juror, Kate Ware, Curator of Photography at the New Mexico Museum of Art.

“25 Years Downtown” Exhibition at MonOrchid Gallery, Phoenix AZ

This year marks the 25h anniversary of Art Detour, a yearly weekend long event showcasing Phoenix’s art scene to its fullest extent. I am grateful to have the pleasure of exhibiting a piece at MonOrchid Gallery’s “25 Years Downtown” an invitational exhibition featuring the works of artist who have had an integral part to the success of the arts in Phoenix. As a way to reminisce the many years of excitement and struggle that we have experienced to create and promote a vibrant culture in the urban center of the valley. The exhibition will open March 1st. The following evening MonOrchid will play host to the Arts Ball where all exhibiting works will be auctioned to help raise money for the re-launching of one of the best publications ever to come out of Phoenix’s art scene - Shade Projects. Art Detour dates include March 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Special thanks to Art Program Director and Curator, Justin Germain, for his interest in having me be apart of this exciting celebration. I look forward to seeing what he’ll do with the space in the future.

Black Carl Album Release:

After a year since the previous release, the final of four collaborative albums with Black Carl is now available to the public. The release show last month at Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom was awesome! For over 2 years now I have had the pleasure of working with these wonderfully talented musicians in creating the Black Carl Record Club Releases. Starting with “The Chariot”, “The Magician” and “The Hanged Man”, “The Fool” and now “The Wheel”, this experience has been nothing short of superb!

We’ve selected photographs of mine we felt best portrayed each album theme, either conceptually, literally or both. This final edition album is a 12 track CD instead of a vinyl record and can be purchased by contacting Black Carl directly.

This has been an exciting way to take part in Phoenix’s music scene and being that Black Carl is one of my favorite local talents, it’s been truly special. Be sure to check em out and support these amazing individuals! Special thanks to John, Matt, Chad, Ian, Emma, and Jess for inviting me to become part of this creative process! It’s been an honor!

With the first month of 2013 behind us, the long wait is over! Studio Visit Magazine’s Volume Twenty features my two page spread showcasing two pieces from my “Fingerprints Of Drinkable Culture” and “Desert Barnacles” series. The 1912 Project 14th Release JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!

Winter is here and The 1912 Project 14^th Release is now available right in time for Christmas! This time around, the edition of black hoodies features white zippers in front and The Area Codes design in big bold lettering on the back. Basically the hoodie version of the stickers going up around Phoenix! That said, there are only 20 of them in unisex sizes and some will be available at MADE Art Boutique on Roosevelt Row so get em while you can. This week I will have the pleasure of working with some young valley talent as part of The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s Visions Teen Program. Through a photography workshop exploring the use of “large” and “small” scale photography high school students will be introduced to two very different forms of image capture - “new age” microscopic photography and “old school” large format view cameras. By focusing on concepts of space and environments and their relationships with small “things” that make them up, these young talents will learn some new methods through which to produce their own work. Any chance I have to work with young talented individuals is always exciting. I enjoy sharing and hopefully inspiring these students to continue engaging in the arts and look forward to seeing the works they create.

I have been invited to exhibit work at an upcoming exhibition at Eye Lounge Contemporary Art Gallery in Phoenix, AZ. “SNAP! Photography Invitational” will feature the photographic work of: Peter Bugg, William LeGoullon, Greg Richard, Marilyn Szabo, Jon Balinke, Lee Lusby, Wayne Rainey, Dayvid LeMmon, Carol Panaro-Smith, James Hajicek, Rachel Woodburn, Bill Timmerman, Chris Varley, Sylvia Burress, Ryan Maxwell, Tom Schultz, Gordon Flatt, Barbara Flatt, Michael Pruitt, and Joshua Caldwell. The Opening Reception is November 16th at 7PM and will run through December 16th. I’m very flattered to have been invited to take part in the exhibition and look forward to seeing it in person… All work sold goes to benefit EyeLounge operating costs. “Out Of Square” at Arizona State University’s Harry Wood Gallery:

I am pleased to announce that my proto-type book entitled “99” will be exhibited at an upcoming exhibition at ASU’s Harry Wood Gallery, opening November 6th from 6-8PM. As part of the yearly ABBA exhibition the show includes artist books of all kinds from The Herberger School’s A Bunch of Book Artists Club and The University of Arizona Book Arts Club. There will also be a silent auction held the night of November 13th at 7PM, however my book will not be included. I suggest anyone interested to attend both of the events and support these fantastic educational organizations.

I have been invited to exhibit in an upcoming exhibition at Phoenix’s Bragg’s Pie Factory. A collaboration show between Anthony Zeh and artists from his studio portraits series, the show will include works by Annie Lopez, Jeff Falk, Mike Prepsky, James Angel, David Dauncy, Linda Ingraham, Rafael Navarro, Thuong Nguyen, Gennaro Garcia, William LeGoullon, Joe Willie Smith, Brent Bond, Kritsin Bauer, Carolyn Lavander, Cristine Cassano, Melissa Martinez, Lara Plecas. “Portrait of an Artist” opens this Friday, October 19th from 7-10PM. The 1912 Project 13th Release NOW AVAILABLE:

Inspired by one of our states most recognizable symbols, The “Carnegiea gigantea” limited edition release features a design incorporating the famous Saguaro cactus. Yeah, it’s a little cheesy, but screw it, we all love em! They are after all one of the coolest things found within our surrounding landscape. The design itself was actually influenced heavily by the work of fellow Phoenix artist and my significant other, Alexandra Bowers. Her interest in desert species and fascination with science fused well with this specific release. The edition is 25 shirts and features a light beige ink design on warm tone grey shirts. The shirts are available for purchase by contacting me via The 1912 Project Website and/or visiting MADE Art Boutique in Phoenix! Latest Fingerprints of Drinkable Culture Imagery:

About a year ago I first showcased some examples of my microscopic discoveries at Phoenix’s Chaos Theory Exhibition. I continued to be fascinated by the processes and imagery found within this new found focus. I worked on the “Fingerprints of Drinkable Culture” series pretty heavily for about 8 months. Although I continued to promote and exhibit these photographs for the months that followed, I decided to take a break from creating new ones to focus on other interests. Now, after briefly stepping away from photographing these popular liquids I have begun re-investigating the possibilities of these materials. The outcomes thus far have been very successful and I look forward to continuing these works. Can you guess what popular beverage the image above is?

Chaos Theory 13:

Once again, I will be having the pleasure of exhibiting along side some of Phoenix’s top artists! This year Randy Slack of Legend City Studios has put together another fantastic list of exhibitors. Featuring 60 artists, the show is sure to be a fantastic demonstration of what Phoenix’s arts community has to offer and includes many of my personal friends and colleagues and even some who I consider major inspirations. It’s truly an honor to be invited once again to take part in this year’s Chaos Theory. Now in its thirteenth year, the exhibition is sure to attract a crowd and I encourage anyone with even the slightest interest in anything creative to check this one out. It opens Friday, October 5th, 2012 at 521 W Van Buren St. at 6PM. Spread the word!

I am pleased to announce that my work was selected to be part of this years “Photo Emerge” Exhibition at The Center Gallery at The Midwest Center For Photography in Wichita, Kansas. The exhibition will feature the works of 12 artists selected by juror; Linda Robinson, director and curator of The Center Gallery, from September 28th through October 12th. This will be my third nationally juried exhibition selection in 2 months.
